Taking Inventory

As I have mentioned before, my life has been blessed by my involvement in Celebrate Recovery.  Step 4 is to make an inventory. Step 5 is to share that inventory.

step 4

Where I work, there’s an annual inventory.  The accountants wear scrubs because sometimes doing inventory means going in places that don’t see much activity.  Those places can be stuffy and musty and dusty and downright unpleasant.

flashlightThat sounds a lot like making a moral inventory.  It’s looking in the corner of you life and of your soul and shining a light there.  Some of the things you find have pushed to the side because they’re too painful, embarrassing or downright unpleasant.  But those things have to be brought out into the light.

Secret things are Satan’s favorite weapons to mete out shame and erode self-esteem.  shameOnce these things are brought out for you to confront, give to God and share with someone you trust, you pluck those particular weapons from Satan’s arsenal.  Bringing your secrets out into the light can be scary and painful.  You may fear rejection or ridicule or abandonment.

I found that people’s reactions were far more supportive that I could have imagined.  I found people that had survived what I’d been through and encouraged me.  I found forgiveness and began the process of learning to forgive myself.

We were made to share each other burdens.  We can’t run this race alone.  I tried. …And tried.  Find someone to trust…just a little.  When you unburden your heart, you open the door to freedom like you’ve never know.

Be Blessed.
