I was thinking about the #superbowl. Unfortunately both teams didn’t lose. But that half time show. JLo and Shakira. If it were not for Shakira Shakira we would never have known that the hips don’t lie🙃. I would have named it the Booty Shaking Half Naked Half-time. Catchy right? But it made me think of a conversation with a friend. We were talking about modest dress. I think that one would not realize the value of modest dress without a change in identity. So many people’s identity is wrapped up in the physical or mental attributes: beauty, physical strength and intelligence. In time, age accident or disease will take it’s toll on these and where will your identity be? Or identity is wrapped in negative actions or events: sin, abuse, guilt, shame. You can’t change the past so one tends to become trapped in the emotion of these events or actions. What should our identity be? We are made in the image of an eternal God. We can create like Him, love like Him, and are empowered by Him. We have been given the spirit of power and love and a sound mind. We are so valuable that He sent Jesus to purchase us back to Him. We are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. When we embrace everything God created us to be, we accept what He says our identity is. And modesty will be come an issue of protecting our Father’s creation from eyes who haven’t earned the right to see certain parts of it. Modesty will be about not causing people for whom lust is a character defect (because we don’t live only for ourselves). Dress like everything we do will be about doing what glorifies God and allows us to effectively share Him with the world. Thanks for hearing my Monday morning take of the Superbowl. Be blessed and have an awesome Monday.
